Regular relaxation can help improve pupils’ concentration, achievement, attendance, behaviour and general health and well-being (Margolis, 1990). Apart from worries about school life, many children suffer from anxiety due to concerns about parents’ finances, climate change, global warming, and street terrorism. These stress hormones suppress the immune response, however, relaxation allows the immune system to recover and so function more effectively. Children who have been exposed to regular relaxation have been found to be happier, more positive and better listeners (Amon and Campbell, 2008).

Learning relaxation from a young age helps children manage their stress and stay in control and focussed. Pupils who are taught these simple relaxation and concentration techniques are able to apply them to all areas of the curriculum and other parts of their life.
